The Harbor that made and unmade Beirut

Tracing the evolution of the port from a key economic player to the epicenter of a city's deepest trauma.

Stories Between Shores

By the end of my stay in Lebanon, I will have spent three months in Beirut. Three months is long and short at the same time: not enough to understand everything about the country, but enough to be deeply inspired by the people I met, the conversations I had, and the places I visited. Since I decided to become a journalist, I’ve carried a metaphor with me: I want my writing to be a bridge between the two coasts of the Mediterranean Sea. Landing in Lebanon was the perfect chance to put that into practice. I started collecting stories and finding new ones every day. I then decided to share them. Keeping them to myself felt wrong, because a bridge is only a bridge if it allows others to cross.
